Kindergarten:

The students start out the year learning KidKey's...a program which reinforces the alphabet and keyboard recognition.

The students move into Millie's Math House...a program which reinforces basic concepts of numbers-patterns-geometric shapes.

The students will also use Reader Rabbit for simple word recognition and phonetic spelling.

The students enjoy Thinking Thing's 2 because it stimulates the creative and playful side of the student.

Students will also be asked to team with the 5th grade students to write a mini-picture book on the computer using My Own Stories. The 5th graders write the story and the Kindergarten buddies illustrate it with graphics.

The students will use KidPix 2 or HyperStudio to create an illustration of a spider.

KidWorks 2 is a great program what enables the students to generate letters and words onto a piece of paper that looks very closely like the paper they use in class. This program is able to transform some pictures into words. The students will use this program to write an alphabet book.

1st Grade:

The students start out the year using KeyKeys to familiarize them once again with the keyboard.

The students will also use KidWorks 2 to reinforce volcabulary words as they type them onto their note pad on screen.

The students will use KidPix2 to create simple dictionary, calendar, and holiday pictures.

Math Rabbit and Math Blaster are good programs to reinforce some basic addition and subtraction theory.

The students are introduced to My Own Stories and will even write a story in phonetic form---later in the year and then near the end of the year they will re-write the story in correct spelling.

The internet may be used but only with a specific site in mind that would be facilitated by the instructor.

The students enjoy Thinking Thing's 2 because it stimulates the creative and playful side of the student.

2nd Grade:

The students start out the year by creating a story on My Own Stories. The students will spend about a tri-mester worth of time to write and illustrate a story. The students will print out their first drafts and have them corrected by Parents/Teachers/Peers. Once corrected the students will edit their stories and prepare them for final print form. Some stories may be placed on the Internet.

The students will be introduced to graphic animation. Using KidPix2 and GifBuilder the students will create a series of animated stills. The stills will then be stitched together and saved as an animated gif that could be viewed through a web browser.

The students will be introduced to Spellbinder where they will enter their vocabulary / spelling words into the program and then the program drills them through a series of spelling games till they reach the White House and win the game.

The internet will be used for specific lessons to begin the process of searching for information.

The students are also taught how to access Accelerated Reader. This program housed in the library but accessible on any computer school-wide,...tests the students on the books they read through the form a book quiz. For every book they read and question they answer they earn points over the course of the year.

3rd Grade:

Students start the year doing meeting two objectives: 1) keyboarding at the teacher's request; 2) spelling survey with Mrs. Boss. The students are being asked to either typed their spelling words 3 times each on the computer or to write them 3 times each on a piece of paper. Mrs. Boss is then tracking their performance to see if they is any noticiable difference.

Student are being introduced to keyboarding using the "traditional" method of typing. The scope of keyboarding is to cover all the alphabet and reinforce through short drill and practice.

Students will use My Own Stories to create illustrated stories once first drafts have been written in class.

Students will be introduced to ClarisWorks (word-processoring). Students will be instructed on how to create a simple document, insert a graphic, save and re-edit.

Students will use HyperStudio to create a multimedia stack. Combing text, graphics and sounds...the students will create an interactive project that is link by a series of layers and buttons.

The students will create a graphic animation. Using KidPix2 and GifBuilder the students will create a series of animated stills. The stills will then be stitched together and saved as an animated gif that could be viewed through a web browser.

Students will use ClarisWorks (word-processoring) to generate various text based projects for class.

Students will be instructed on how to create a simple document, insert a graphic, save, re-edit, spellcheck, and format.

Students will use HyperStudio to create a number multimedia stacks. Combing text, graphics and sounds...the students will create an interactive project that is link by a series of layers and buttons.

The students will also be introduced to use and creation of spread sheets. Students will create simple spread sheets that will easily convert to graphs.

6th Grade:

Students begin the year to brushing up their keyboarding skills using the "traditional" method of typing. The scope of keyboarding is to cover all the alphabet, using the shift key, typing numbers and reinforcing their skills through short drill and practice.

Students will use ClarisWorks (word-processoring) to generate various text based projects for class.

Students will review how to create a simple document, insert a graphic, save, re-edit, spellcheck, format, cut and past from other documents and other applications.

Students will create a Newsletter for Ancient History and a Report in Science in ClarisWorks. Student will create a presentation on any topic approved by teacher on PowerPoint. The Students will lab time for instruction on application and to create their projects.

Students may use HyperStudio to create a number multimedia stacks. Combing text, graphics and sounds...the students will create an interactive project that is link by a series of layers and buttons.
